Painting Shorelines: where  Water meets Land

Picture

Workshop Description:

After two residencies in the Shetland Islands, artist and educator Jan Yates has been focusing her paintings on the movement and pattern of water in varying weather conditions. This workshop will lead participants into an exploration of atmospheric effects on bodies of water. The focus is also  on effectively depicting the merge of water with land along the shore.

The artist will share techniques that address:
  • Manipulation of brushes and knives to indicate light, reflection, depth, edges and mass
  • Paint consistency to render subtle and varied atmospheric transitions
  • Colour mixing
Participants will work observationally from live webcams and videos as well as from their own photographs.

Medium: oil or acrylic
Some painting experience is advised and a materials list provided.

Date and Time:

Saturday, February 4

10AM-3:30PM
(please bring a lunch)
